Business Development Support

What is on offer?

Alfred H Knight Energy Services are looking to recruit Business Development Support to join our Team in Dundonald.  As part of our Commercial Team, you will actively support and work alongside other functions in the group such as Client Services, Marketing and Business Development. The position may require you to identify new opportunities, track market trends, and assist with the preparation of presentations and commercial documents. The role will be critical in supporting AHK’s evolving service levels and continued growth whilst implementing new initiatives. This is an expanding new department with an objective of capturing and improving our customers experience, before, during and after the sale. Inside this project, you would be a point of contact for customers regarding the services that AHK provides. This can include, but not limited to; dealing with general enquiries, onboarding a new customer, coordinating sample collections, issuing quotations, KPI management and a potential for key account management.

Do you have what it takes?


  • Manage the AHKES enquiries for Energy Services, to ensure quotes are provided in a professional and timely manner. Consult with relevant personnel and departments.
  • Point of contact for clients regarding these services and provide professional communications and support to build confidence in the AHK brand and retain clients.
  • Monitor AHKES service deliverables, such as price and turnaround time and ensure they are met, especially with contracts.
  • With support from technical and commercial colleagues, assess the most appropriate Group facility or collaboration partner to undertake analysis of new business.
  • Ensure that inspection enquiries are directed to the correct client liaison manager / Group operation and/or brought to the attention of Business Development personnel.
  • Managing client relationships throughout the sales cycle, working alongside operational colleagues to maintain a high level of service and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in writing and preparing presentations and tender documents.
  • Help identify new clients and opportunities to increase sales with existing clients. Also to identify areas of high risk/conflict before engaging in work.
  • Carry out client follow ups with pending quotes and post-sales, to assess and assist client enquiries and feedback (quotation KPI’s). Cold calling potential clients if necessary.
  • Track sales relating to analysis enquiries through sales reports and monitor targets. Write supporting periodical reports (enquiry KPI’s).
  • Oversee the completion of vendor/client requirements for service supplier forms and supplier portals. Establishment of new client accounts (KYC).
  • Support with pricing reviews and sales/activity data.
  • Manage and review the daily industry market news / information to help identify opportunities. Discussing with appropriate Business Development personnel to qualify potential leads and allocate actions.
  • Keeping up to date on current market trends, changes and potential client needs.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Business Development personnel across the Group to ensure the Opportunity Matrix / Pipeline works effectively including overseeing data entry management and supporting the identification of opportunities.
  • When necessary attend conferences and client visits to assist the Energy Services Commercial manager and associated colleagues.

Required Work Experience

  • Previous work experience within a commercial and/or team environment (desired but not essential).

Required Qualifications 

  • An appropriate degree qualification.

Travel / Rotation Requirements 

  • Travel as required both domestically and internationally.
  • Must have a valid passport and the ability to obtain visas as necessary.
