We have an exciting opportunity for the Group Support Chemist to join our Team in Prescot. The Group Support Chemist will support the continuous improvement of technical competence in all global AHK Laboratory operations focused on metals and minerals analysis, as well as supporting the delivery of the key Group Quality and Technical initiatives. The successful candidate will interact with all levels of the organisation to influence ongoing standardisation and alignment to Group requirements. Their work should exceed the expectations of our colleagues to enable best in class service to our customers.

Performs remote and on-site audits according to established guidelines to support the delivery of the planned annual schedule for the global Group Auditing Programme.
Chairs, takes minutes and circulates actions for monthly technical meetings for overseas laboratory locations under their remit, with an agenda primed to cover all topical issues and to provide opportunity for the local laboratory teams to request support and to drive continuous improvement.
Supports the delivery of the monthly Group Quality Exercise, closely following the intended four week cycle and supports the close out all non-conformances in a timely manner.
Supports QC data collation and review for the ongoing delivery of QC monitoring and subsequent identification of issues for appropriate corrective action.
Supports the Group Technical Manager and Overseas Technical Manager in the review and completion of the Group Method Validation Protocol for the full scope of laboratory locations under their remit.
Supports technical training visits to Group Headquarters from our Overseas colleagues and possibly external clients.
Supports in the planning and execution of any Group technical training.
Provides support in the maintenance and extension to scope of accreditation in overseas locations.
Under the guidance of the Group Technical Manager, provides support for Group technical development projects.
Provides support in the tender for outsourcing opportunities as well as active involvement in any new laboratory implementation.
When requested, provides support in client meetings either in Group Headquarters or off site.
Contributes to the continual update of the Group Laboratory scope.
Provides UK operational support when requested and agreed with the UK Laboratory Manager and the Group Technical Manager.
Supports the production of Internal Reference Materials and subsequent assessment and circulation across the Group.
Supports the upkeep of all Group Technical documentation.
Supports any ad-hoc projects and development tasks when agreed with Group Technical Manager and/or Group Quality Manager.
Ensures compliance with all Company Health, Safety & Environmental procedures as instructed.
To be successful at Alfred H Knight, you will need to display the following:
Required Knowledge & Skills
Understanding of statistics and method validation.
Able to process large data sets to reach conclusions.
Proficient in all IT systems associated with the role including Microsoft Office – Excel skills especially. Use of Project management software tools: ASANA, Monday.com or others. Google suite use: drive use, sheets and documents with Apps Script as desirable. LIMS use: OnWSH and LabCreate desirable.
Able to spot deficiencies in ISO 17025 compliant Quality Management Systems.
Good understanding of the chemistry associated with commercial assay methods.
Degree or HND in Inorganic chemistry or a related discipline
Required Work Experience
At least 5 years of experience in a commercial analytical laboratory environment.
Experience in any/all of the following analytical techniques, applied in a Testing Inspection and Certification (TIC) setting – WDXRF, EDXRF, FAAS, ICP, ICPMS, CIC, IR combustion, Fire assay,
Automated and Manual titration, Electrogravimetry, sample preparation and digestion.
A proven record in internal auditing.
Able to critically review technical information and spot root causes and suggest solutions.
High attention to detail.
Focused on meeting deadlines.
Able to influence and persuade others into adopting alternative approaches based on their findings.
Able to work independently.
Able to communicate effectively in a range of different formats.
Fluent in English. Ability to speak Spanish or Chinese is desirable.
Frequent overseas travel, generally no more than two weeks per trip.
