Laboratory Operations Support Manager

What is on offer?

We have an opportunity for a Laboratory Operations Support Manager to join our team based at our main laboratory facility in Liverpool. The Laboratory Operations Support Manager is responsible for for supporting the management, supervision and delivery of UK laboratory services to ensure that an efficient and high quality analytical service is provided in order to meet reporting deadlines and priorities agreed with clients.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • High level of expertise in analytical laboratory related platforms.
  • Understanding the theory of analytical and have the ability to pass down via training this knowledge.
  • Able to process large data sets to reach conclusions.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Effective people management skills.
  • The ability to make decisive decisions and offer creative solutions.
  • Able to critically review technical information and spot root causes and suggest solutions.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Able to focus on meeting given deadlines.

  • Able to communicate effectively in a range of different formats and at all levels in the organisation.

Work Experience

  • Substantial experience in a commercial analytical laboratory environment.
  • Experience in all of the following analytical techniques: Sample preparation, FAAS, OES, ICP OES, ICP MS, WDXRF, EDXRF, Thermogravimetric analysis, Classical Fire Assay, Classical Wet chemical analysis, including gravimetric, volumetric and instrumental techniques.
  • The involvement and delivery of high level laboratory operational projects to fulfil business requirements.
  • Experience managing teams of laboratory personnel and scientists.

Qualifications

  • Higher National Education level knowledge or equivalent vocational experience.
  • Further scientific qualifications of interest.
  • Have experience as a senior manager of laboratory facilities.
  • Recognised management qualifications and /or attendance at courses on relevant management issues.

Travel / Rotation Requirements

  • Possibility of overseas travel, generally no more than two weeks per trip.
