Senior Chemist

WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Chemist to join the team in Dundonald, UK. You will be responsible for carrying out the analysis of fuels and related substances, ensuring all quality procedures within the solid fuels laboratory are being adhered to.

Reporting to the Deputy Laboratory Manager the Senior Chemist is responsible for carrying out analytical methods and standard operating practices without supervision to a high degree of precision and accuracy.  You will also be expected to ensure that an effective and high quality analytical service is provided and meet reporting deadlines. Additionally, you must carry out method development within coal, biomass and chemistry labs using a number of analytical instrument techniques.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum 5 year experience within a laboratory analytical setting.
  • Minimum 3 year experience in method validation and development.
  • Experience of managing people.

 

Required Competencies

  • Ability to plan and implement method development and validation work.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with techniques such as GCMS, ICP-MS & IC.
  • Troubleshooting knowledge and general problem solving.
  • Mentoring, coaching, training and technical support.
  • Ability to effectively lead and drive a team.
  • Highly organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong quality focus with a strive for excellence.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • IT skills – Microsoft and Google applications.

 

Required Qualifications

  • HNC or HND in Science related subjects or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Science degree preferable.
