Attending: Dr Laurance Donnelly, Chief Geologist, Head of Technical Department at Alfred H Knight International and the Founder and Chair of IUGS Initiative on Forensic Geology
The Japan Geoscience Union Meeting (JpGU2022), is a meeting of the Japanese Geoscience Union, an organisation of around 10,000 members and 51 scientific associations related to Earth and Planetary Sciences.
The meeting, now being held in a hybrid format of offline and in-person, will take place on the 25th of May in Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan and will touch on important topics within Solid Earth Sciences.
During this year’s meeting, Dr Laurance Donnelly, Chief Geologist, Head of Technical Department at Alfred H Knight International and the Founder and Chair of IUGS Initiative on Forensic Geology will be delivering a presentation on ‘A Global Review of Forensic Geology and Crimes Associated with the Exploration, Mining and Trading of Minerals and Metals’.
This presentation will review the global advancements in forensic geology with a particular emphasis on the contributions from Japan, following the seemingly growing problem of crimes that take place in the minerals, mining and metals industries.
Dr Donnelly will also present geological methods and techniques that are adaptable and adoptable to assist law enforcement and commercial organisations in the tracking, trading and provenance determination (also known as predictive geolocation) of valuable geological cargo and commodities such as ore, mineral concentrates, refinery and smelter products, precious metal bullion, diamonds, gemstones and fossils.
If you are attending this year’s meeting, make sure to catch Dr Donnelly’s presentation, which will be delivered on the 25th of May.
