In the last decade, there has been a rise in the number of operational Energy from Waste (EfW) plants in a bid to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Through technical analysis of the Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) left behind by incineration at EfW plants, we can find further value and potential in non-ferrous heavy metals, sought after input materials for smelters.
As more EfW operators explore the quality of their input streams to maintain assets, they could find further commercial value from the resulting waste streams and contribute to a Circular Economy.
Recycling IBA can also help to reduce the carbon footprint of the waste management industry. Recovering heavy non-ferrous metals from IBA is more environmentally friendly than using virgin resources when smelting.
