AHK’s Apprenticeship Journey: Growing Through Our People
As we mark National Apprenticeship Week, we take a moment to reflect on AHK’s Apprenticeship Journey. We want to highlight the people who shape who we are and contribute to our growth.
Our journey with apprenticeships began with intent, rather than scale. From the beginning, we believed in structured learning and long-term development. Supporting our apprentices and investing in our colleagues reflects AHK’s commitment to expertise.
What started as a small, focused commitment has grown into a development pathway embedded across the business. Today, we proudly support 40 apprentices across multiple sectors and qualification levels, ranging from Level 3 to Level 7 apprenticeships. Each apprentice contributes to the organisation while building technical skills and confidence to support their careers.
AHK’s Apprenticeship Journey So Far
Trusted external partners delivered our early apprenticeship programmes. This enabled us to establish strong foundations and consistent development frameworks. This crucial phase allowed us to learn, refine and strengthen our approach, helping to make AHK’s Apprenticeship Journey accessible and effective.

As our experience grew, so did our ambition. We recognised that embedding apprenticeships into our organisation meant harnessing the rich knowledge, insights, and experience already within our business, and shaping a programme led by our people, informed by our expertise.
In 2025, AHK became an approved employer provider. This enabled us to design and deliver apprenticeships in-house. This was a huge milestone for us, and we are proud of our progress.
A Proud Milestone for AHK
In January 2026, our first in-house cohort of Level 3 laboratory technician apprentices began their programmes. This launched a new phase in our approach to developing talent internally and building career pathways.
We are proud to support our apprentices as they begin their journey with us and look forward to seeing them succeed.
Where We Are Going
Our future focus is clear: to continue building on an apprenticeship programme that supports organisational growth through people development.
This means expanding internal delivery while continuing to partner with external training providers. We aim to create a balanced model that combines internal expertise with specialist external support. It allows us to offer structured, high-quality development that evolves alongside business needs.
At Alfred H Knight, apprenticeships are not simply entry routes; they are designed to broaden the knowledge and skills you need to develop in your career.
