Presenting: Dr Laurance Donnelly, Chief Geologist, Head of Technical Department at Alfred H Knight International and the Founder and Chair of IUGS Initiative on Forensic Geology
Halifax 2022 is a joint meeting of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC), the Mineralogical Association of Canada (MAC), the International Association of Hydrogeologists – Canadian National Chapter (IAH-CNC), and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG). The hosting society is the Atlantic Geoscience Society.
The meeting promises a diverse program including symposia and special sessions, field trips, and short courses related to a wide variety of geoscience disciplines. This year’s event will take place from the 15th to the 18th of May in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual components. You can find more information on the event on the Halifax site.
During this year’s meeting, Dr Laurance Donnelly, Chief Geologist, Head of Technical Department at Alfred H Knight International and the Founder and Chair of IUGS Initiative on Forensic Geology will be delivering a virtual presentation on ‘The Role of IUGS-IFG in the Global Advancement of Forensic Geology and a Review of Provenance Determination Methods for the Tracking of Minerals and Metals in the Global Supply Chain’.
The presentation will explain the advancements in the past decade in forensic geology, including (a) geological crime scene examination, (b) the collection and analysis of geological trace evidence, and (c) ground searches for burials associated with homicide, organised crime and counter-terrorism. The paper also provides a review of the methods and techniques for the tracking of minerals and precious metals in the global supply chain. This may be required to deter or detect the illegal trafficking, theft and trade in minerals and metals, which is reported in some parts of the world.
If you will be attending, make sure to catch Dr Donnelly’s presentation, which will be delivered at 03:00 PM GMT on the 18th of May in room HCC B605 on the virtual platform. Attendees will also be able to ask questions live.
