Attending: Dr Laurance Donnelly
As industry leaders in inspection, testing and international technical consultancy of Metals, Minerals and Mining, we are pleased to announce that Dr Laurance Donnelly, Chief Geologist and Head of the Alfred H Knight Technical Department, has been invited by INTERPOL to attend an International Seminar on Illicit Gold Mining and Traceability in the Gold Production Chain, from 27 June 2022 to 2 July 2022, at the National Institute of Criminalistics, in Brasília, Brazil.
Dr Donnelly is the founder and chair of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), Initiative on Forensic Geology (IFG), and has been advising police and law enforcement on the applications of geology to investigate major and high-profile crimes around the world for over 30 years.
He will be working in collaboration with representatives from INTERPOL, the Brazilian Federal Police, FBI, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), various banks, financial organisations and mining companies from about 19 countries. The purpose is to develop a greater understanding of crimes in the minerals, mining and metals industries and the consideration of methods and strategies for the management and mitigation of risks that include fraud, adulteration, substitution, theft, tracking, tracing and geographical provenance determination of gold and other minerals and metals in the global supply chain, which also impacts on human rights violations, money laundering and misconduct in illegal and illicit mining and minerals activities. The details of this event are confidential, although a high-level summary could be provided following the event if this may be of interest.
