Meet Jo Wang, Laboratory Manager at Acornfield in the UK!
Jo started her career as a graduate chemist in 2012, completing extensive training across various departments within an AHK laboratory.
Over the years, Jo has shown significant growth and success in her career. In 2022, Jo was promoted to Laboratory Manager in China. Now she is the manager of the Acornfield laboratory in the UK.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?
My leadership focuses on understanding each individual’s strengths and fostering teamwork to build strong, connected and collaborative teams. I prioritise regular communication to keep everyone aligned and conduct frequent progress reviews to ensure goals are met. I lead by example, never assigning tasks I wouldn’t do myself. Finally, I consistently provide feedback to prioritise both individual and team achievements, reinforcing a culture of encouragement and continuous improvement.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH NAVIGATING TEAMS THROUGH A PERIOD OF CHANGE?
During my time with the AHK China Laboratory team, it became evident that to meet the demands of the local market, the laboratory would need to develop new analytical methods. This would require a commitment to technical excellence and the ability to adapt to change.
It was essential to ensure that any changes were communicated clearly to the team and managed within a controlled timeframe with little disruption to the laboratory’s daily operations. The key to success was to implement a thorough project plan, ensure that necessary resources and support were available and maintain open communication to achieve our targets.
HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE AND ALIGN YOUR TEAM WITH THE COMPANY’S VISION?
It is important for team members to understand the purpose and value of their roles and how these roles are connected to Alfred H Knight’s vision, values and mission.
