As leading providers of inspection, analysis and consultancy services for the metals and minerals industry, we were pleased to be attending the 5th Annual European Chapter of the IPMI. John Moulding – Commercial Manager for PGM and PM Materials, Phil Bolan – Senior Business Development Manager and Dave Mitchell – Technical Manager attended the event, as well as Mike Belton, Alfred H Knight Chairperson, who presented ‘Mining the Circular Economy’.

Mike Belton is an active member of IPMI and has presented a number of papers at previous IPMI conferences. In 2015 he was awarded a Lifetime Silver Membership of IPMI to recognize his work as the Founding President of the IPMI Europe Chapter.

As demand for Platinum Group Metals (PGM) is expected to decline in line with the reduced number of Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles, it is expected that we will see an increase in Electric Vehicles and the demand for battery metals. Mike’s presentation looks at both PGMs and battery metal market trends, assessing the strategic nature of these critical metals.

The presentation also documents AHK’s journey to understanding the physicochemical characteristics of waste battery streams, such as Black Mass products, in depth, with the goal to minimise risk and facilitate global trade.
