Are you a Self Supplier of Waste Wood for the RHI? Protect your RHI

If you operate a waste wood boiler accredited to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, can you prove that the fuel you are using is appropriate for your boiler?

The right type of fuel is elementary to the profitable, dependable and lasting function of your biomass boiler. It is important to only feed your boiler with fuel that meets the requirement of your permit and RHI regulations and to assure this, you should undertake regular fuels analysis.

By doing so, you can ensure that you remain compliant with the RHI scheme and eligible to continue to receive your payments. Furthermore, you can also prevent damage to your boiler and avoid expensive repair costs.

Whilst virgin wood to the correct specification may be suitable for burning within your biomass boiler, wood that has been put to a previous use is subject to environmental regulation and will need to be burned in a biomass boiler suited to the job. You also need to demonstrate to Ofgem, the administrators of the RHI scheme, that the waste wood has a biomass content of above 90%.

Waste wood is subject to classification, so to ensure that you meet any regulatory requirements and handle your waste wood correctly, comprehensive and ongoing analysis of your fuel or waste material is imperative.
