Independent Contractor

WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for an Independent Contractor (General Cargo Inspections & Sampling) to work with our team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. You will be responsible for ensuring client instructions are carried out at agreed consignment locations, acting as an independent party to verify compliance with agreed processes and inspection and supervision procedures.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE 

 

Essential 

  • Read and interpret documents such as packing lists,  operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals, safety instructions, etc.
  • Follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite (primarily word and excel).
  • Work well with others and independently.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role including lifting up to 50lbs, walking, standing, reaching, bending, climbing, sampling and driving.
  • Maintain a professional and independent position for all assignments.
  • Effective communication skills with onsite and office based staff.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have the ability to convey details through accurate, professional and timely communications (verbal, written and in person) including taking photographs and producing thorough and detailed written reports.
  • Must be reliable and able to organise and operate independently (training will be provided).
  • Computer literate and good mathematical skills.
  • Positive attitude.

 

Required Work Experience

  • Previous general cargo, vehicles, quality control and assurance, pre-shipment inspection experience is preferred.
  • Experience in material sampling and inspection practices is preferred.
  •  (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials allow access to US Ports) preferred. If working in a location where TWIC is required, candidate must be able to pass the background and security requirements.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role including lifting up to 50lbs, walking, standing, reaching, bending, climbing, sampling and driving.
  • Minimum  of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid and clean Driving Licence.
  • Must have a working laptop and/or smartphone/tablet.
  • Must have a personal vehicle suitable for transportation to assignments.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

 

Travel / Rotation Requirements 

  • Flexible working schedule between the hours of 6am – 6pm (dayshift) or 6pm-6am (nightshift). On occasions there may be requirements to work past 6pm and/or weekends.
  • Willing to travel to remote inspection locations (in cases up to 150 miles one way).
